Mr. DC doccoach sports

An iOS and Apple Watch remote coaching app with live training data and real-time exercise recognition.

KISensorikHealth

Project and context

DocCoach connects athletes and personal trainers by video call. During a live session, the trainer sees heart rate, calories burned, recognized exercises, and counted repetitions.

Athletes can also record activities such as running, walking, cycling, and independent bodyweight workouts.

01

My role

I held primary technical responsibility for developing and evolving the iOS app. I implemented the user interface, integrated video calling and sensors, and created the companion app for Apple Watch.

This also included communication between iPhone and Apple Watch, the release process, and App Store management.

02

Technical foundations

The app runs on iPhone and iPad with an Apple Watch companion. Standard Bluetooth chest straps provide heart-rate data. With a Movesense sensor, Motion AI also recognizes bodyweight exercises and counts repetitions.

During the video call, heart rate, calories burned, recognized exercise, and repetitions are visible to the trainer in real time.

03

The central technical challenges

Video, Apple Watch, Bluetooth sensors, and movement recognition all produce data in parallel. These streams have to remain reliable and understandable throughout the workout.

At the same time, the mature app was fully migrated from UIKit to SwiftUI while remaining in active use.

04

Results and evidence

DocCoach has been available in the App Store since December 2021 and has been continuously developed ever since.

The current version combines video coaching, live health data, and automatic exercise recognition in one application. We migrated 33 screens to SwiftUI in the live product.

05

My perspective

DocCoach shows how video communication, health data, and movement recognition can become a practical coaching tool. Our earlier Motion AI technology now runs in a live client product.
